In an endeavour to bring cutting-edge art closer to people, Elsewhere Foundation strives to create a dialogue between different art forms from across the country through curated and conceptualised events endorsed by established artists, an initiation of grants and scholarships for young artists, besides commissioning art projects. Conceived in memory of author and playwright Swadesh Deepak (details in ‘Swadesh Deepak’ section), Elsewhere is not geographically restricted, knowing no boundaries of language or artistic expression, age or ‘message’. It is a constantly moving kaleidoscope of spaces, artists, art forms and thoughts in the myriad hues of varied expression in a constantly evolving Indian cultural landscape.
In this multiplicity, we try bringing forth experiences that ‘transform’ the spectator.
Breaking barriers at all levels, between the initiated and the uninitiated, the artist and the audience, we curate in the spirit of creating a dialogue between the forms, in locations — near and far, with people known and unknown, in vision and sound, in the testing times we live in.
Exhibitions, plays, concerts, dance recitals, films, performance art, workshops, talks, heritage walks… the experiences could be challenging to enumerate here but the doors they open to the public are infinite.
Though based in Chandigarh, the Foundation travels across the country.
